If an active part of an image is selected, you can apply effects, filters, and other editing tools exclusively to the selected area. The rest of the image will not change. A selected area can be shaped using tools such as Rectangular Marquee, Elliptical Marquee, Lasso, Magic Wand, as well as with the command Color Range.
